Abstract composition by Paul Butti. Butti is an artist who worked in France in the second half of the 20th Century after moving from his birthplace of Tunis via Spain. He was part of a postwar expressionist movement known as 'matter painting'. Butti is inspired by nature, but did not try to replicate it in his paintings. Instead his work is about the relationship between the paint and the canvas. It is a celebration of both materials. This is demonstrated in this 1986 piece which is vibrant in colour, texture and confident brush marks.
