Vanessa Bell

A glimpse at the work of English artist and interior designer Vanessa Bell (1879-1961)

Initially influenced by the post-Impressionist exhibitions organised by Roger Fry, in 1914 Bell moved on to Abstraction.  She is now now one of the most celebrated painters of the Bloomsbury Group.  The groups first ever meetings actually took place in Bell's house in Gordon Square.

Here are some paintings, including a portrait of her sister Virginia Woolf (below) and some photographs of the home she designed with long time collaborator Duncan Grant.
